Belonging

This book juxtaposes two contrasting perspectives on belonging through the works of bell hooks and Olga Tokarczuk. hooks retuned to her hometown, Kentucky and explored Black community ties to the land, while Tokarczuk portrays belonging through constant movement and travel.
The design visualizes this tension through typography and layout. hooks’ text occupies the center of each page - grounded and permanent - while Tokarczuk’s text flows along the margins, embodying mobility and transience.
